Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre
Canada’s first public hospital and research institute to be designed, built, financed and maintained by a private sector company was opened in October 2006. Carillion is a lead member of the consortium that delivered the new Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre that replaced the 100 year old Royal Ottawa Hospital. This is a specialist mental health hospital with some 188 in-patient rooms. The affiliated research institute, the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research (IMHR) now resides in a tower with state of the art laboratories and technology. The facility, a teaching hospital of the University of Ottawa, was built in two years and finished six years ahead of schedule. The new facilities include a wireless information technology system, the first of its kind to be used in Canada. This technology provides significant efficiency in the delivery of healthcare at the bedside and throughout the Royal Ottawa mental health centre. The new research institute enables the recruitment of some of the brightest stars in neuroscience and behavioural research from around the world. The institute has advanced imaging and diagnostic techniques to study brain function more closely than ever before. Carillion and its partners are responsible for non-clinical services including linen, dietary, security, maintenance and asset management.
